Safe Start Demonstration Sites
San Francisco Safe Start Lead Agency: Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families Safe Start Staff:
Other Major Collaborators: Batterers Intervention Program Directors, Child Abuse Council, The City and County Departments of Health Services, City Attorney's Office, The Commission on the Status of Women, Community-based organizations, The Department of Public Health, Domestic Violence programs, Faith-based leaders, Family Violence Department of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, Family Violence Prevention Fund, The Mayor's Criminal Justice Council, Unified Family Court of San Francisco, University of California, San Francisco Project Purpose: All San Francisco children ages 0-6 will live and thrive in safe, supportive environments with their caregivers. The people who care for them and touch their lives will understand the impact of violence on young children. Systems (including the courts, social services, police, legal, medical, mental health, spiritual, and educational systems) will respond in a culturally appropriate and compassionate way to children and their caregivers. Children will live, play, and learn in environments where violence is not tolerated. Project Goals:
