Defending Childhood Task Force Holds Second Hearing

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder's National Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence will hold its second public hearing on Tuesday, January 31st in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Expert panelists and members of the public will address current problems and system responses to children's exposure to violence in rural and tribal communities.

About Children Exposed to Violence

Each year millions of children are exposed to violence in their homes and communities. Exposure to violence, particularly multiple exposures, can interfere with children's ability to think and learn and can disrupt the course of healthy physical, emotional, and intellectual development. Exposure to violence is associated with increased use of health and mental health services and increased risk of involvement with the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.
